Dear Parents and Guardians,
Choosing Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Gwenlli and Welsh-medium education for your child, will afford you the opportunity to join a growing number of families across Wales who recognise the many benefits of bilingual learning.
We understand that this choice can be a challenge—especially if Welsh isn’t spoken at home. However, it is a rewarding journey, in which your support will play a vital role in your child’s success.
At Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Gwenlli, the needs of our children are always paramount in the life and decision making within the school. I strongly believe in providing our children with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in a variety of ways. I think it is crucial to involve our children and their families as partners in their education. I am also keen on continuing to build a whole school community which thrives on mutual respect and values positive relationships. I know how vital working in partnership with parents really is in order for children to find school a positive and rewarding experience.
As key educators in your children’s lives, I feel that it is important that you have a voice and that as a school we are approachable and allocate time to listen to your concerns, worries or thoughts that you may have.
We encourage pupils to speak Welsh throughout the school day—including during playtime and lunch. Your encouragement at home, even if you’re not a Welsh speaker, makes a big difference.
If you’re learning Welsh yourself, we warmly invite you to spend time on the school gate, speaking with others – be it children, staff or other parents. It’s a great way to hear the language in use and build your confidence.
Our goal is for every pupil to feel safe, happy, and respected. We’re proud of the strong sense of community at Nant Gwenlli, here in Pilgwenlli, which is built on fairness, discipline, and mutual respect among pupils, staff, governors, and families.
I look forward to working with you in the years ahead and to help every child reach their full potential.
